LOOKING BACK ON

20 YEARS OF SERVICE

2002

Community Connections is founded and established in March 2002 as a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation. As a licensed Child Placing Agency, Community Connections provides foster homes and supportive services for children who are in the temporary legal custody of the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Georgia.

Located in Stone Mountain Village, Community Connections begins certifying foster parents and building a network of homes for children in need. We kick off the first of many annual Spring Flings, School Start Campaigns, and Holiday Toy Drives, making sure all of the children in our program are equipped with new spring outfits, school supplies, and toys.

2004

Our first adoption through the agency is finalized! While we have always prioritized the safe and timely reunification of our children with their families of origin, we are happy to see kids find their forever homes with our foster families when reunification is not possible. Charles and Margaret Evans (pictured) are still active and wonderful foster parents with our agency.

2005

Seeing the need in our community, Community Connections makes a concentrated effort to start serving children in foster care with complex, medically fragile needs. Our foster parents are provided additional trainings that equip them with the necessary skills to care for children with feeding tubes and other medical needs.

2010

Fewer than ten years after founding, Community Connections outgrows the original office! We move to another office location to accommodate our ever-expanding staff and network of foster parents.

This same year, Community Connections is honored by a generous donation from Gap, in honor of Donald Glover Jr., as a selected nonprofit for their Gap “Want” campaign. Donald Glover Jr. was motivated to give by his own parents, Donald Glover Sr. and Beverly Glover, who served as foster parents throughout his childhood growing up in Atlanta.

2015

In 2015, we kick off our first Fall Coat Drive, a now annual event where each child in our program receives a brand new coat for the winter season. Thanks to our committed donors, our kids are stylishly bundled up all winter long.

2017

Community Connections unveils the Closet Connection, a store where our foster parents can shop for the children in their home free of charge! The Closet Connection serves 45 children in its first year of existence and is stocked by generous donations from the community.

2022

Twenty years down the road, Community Connections continues to advocate for family centered practice, expediency for children in reaching their permanency plans, and quality foster homes for the children we serve. We are poised to finalize our agency’s 100th adoption, and we can’t wait to continue growing in new and impactful ways!
